As if there weren’t enough interstellar wonders to gawp at in the massive open galaxy of Elite: Dangerous, developer Frontier has just added a couple of new sights to see.
Namely the ‘exoplanets’ Kepler-438b and 442b, which were recently discovered by NASA’s Kepler spacecraft programme – two planetary bodies which are described as the most “Earth-like” yet discovered.
Not that they’re that easy to get to. Both are over 400 light-years away, located in the constellation of Lyra. That’s a bit of a stretch for modern tech, but not so much for the advanced spaceships of Elite. It’s pretty cool to see the latest scientific information being recreated in the space sim MMO. The new additions are part of patch 1.4, which you can read more about on the official forums.
In other news, Frontier’s game has raised over £14.1 million with 300,000 active players currently zooming about the galaxy. The developer released its financial reports recently (reported here by Incgamers), and revealed three possible sales scenarios, the best of which forecasted around £300,000,000 in sales by 2017. That’s an ambitious estimate, but right now they’re on target to make it.
Elite: Dangerous is off to a great start, in other words. All we need now is for Frontier to flesh out that huge galaxy with a few more things to do. More content is on the way soon, but the developer isn’t yet ready to detail exactly what it consists of.
