It’s been awhile since we talked about Homeworld: Shipbreakers, the prequel game in the works from the creators of the illustrious Homeworld RTS series. It appears we’re never going to talk about Shipbreakers again though, because the game has been formally announced with the title Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak.
Deserts of Kharak was born out of a title originally named Hardware: Shipbreakers. It was Homeworld in everything but name considering Gearbox Software bought the IP rights from Sierra Entertainment. Nonetheless, Gearbox took notice and instead of shutting the project down, they partnered with what would become Blackbird Interactive to give the game the Homeworld moniker it deserved. Today, Gearbox and Blackbird offered an official trailer announcing their newest Homeworld game as we will come to know it.
Deserts of Kharak is a prequel story that centers around the story of Rachel S’Jet, an obvious relation to the central Homeworld series character Karan S’Jet for players who are familiar with the series. The game is set to include massive maps of real-time combat as well as online multiplayer modes. All in all, it would appear that Gearbox and Blackbird are set to bring Homeworld back in style.
The best part is that we won’t have to wait much longer for this one. It’s coming on January 20, 2016 and to sweeten the deal, anyone who pre-orders the game will get a free digital copy of the Homeworld: Remastered Collection. It’s a great deal for old fans that want to add these games to their digital collection or new players that want to explore the history of a fantastic classic RTS series. You can learn more about the game on the official website or place your pre-order on Steam
