I played a bit of Faeria a couple of months ago, and was very pleasantly surprised by it. It’s a digital collectible card game, so there’s no escaping Hearthstone comparisons, but the game’s focus on tactical board positioning gives it a unique flavor. Its revised form has been available in Early Access since early this year, and fans have been awaiting its free-to-play release.
But now they don’t have much longer to wait. The game will make the fre switch on August 24, along with its 0.8 update. That update will also include new single-player content, taking the solo mode from a tutorial to a full-blown, 20 hour long campaign. Along with that, new language support, new Mythic card layouts, and smaller improvements will come in.
Of course, if you can’t wait until the 24th, you can play Faeria right now, as it’s currently free on Steam until later this evening. That’ll give you a chance to perfect your skills ahead of the wider free release later on.
Faeria’s got the potential to be a very interesting game, and even if it can’t dethrone Blizzard’s juggernaut, it could still carve out its own niche and build a compelling game with an active community.
