The Old Republic is okay! It’s not the Knights of the Old Republic 3 that I’m still dying to play, but it’s a solid story-driven MMO that seems to have settled into a comfortable niche with its free-to-play transition. Now it looks like an original follow-up is on the horizon.
A job listing recently surfaced on EA’s career site for a Lead Server Software Engineer at BioWare Austin. The position will be “for a new, unannounced BioWare IP,” and core duties will include working with other engineers ”to architect and develop game server systems.” So an MMO studio is working on an online-focused game!
Beyond Mass Effect: Andromeda, this is the only thing any form of BioWare has on the upcoming list. BioWare Austin has been cooking away on Old Republic expansions, so it’ll be interesting to see where this one goes, and doubly interesting because it will be an original IP. (The last new world BioWare created was Dragon Age way back in 2009, for the record.)
Thanks to Destructoid for digging this one up.
