So, has Dying Light become too easy? Techland has announced one of the upcoming features of Dying Light: The Following - Enhanced Edition: the Nightmare mode, which ”restricts overpowered Easter Egg weapons, introduces XP penalties for dying, ramps up the difficulty of enemies, and more.”
The Nightmare Mode takes the Hard Mode to a new level. “We’ve designed the Nightmare Mode for those seeking a really challenging and immersive experience. Nightmare Mode takes everything that was brutal in our Hard Mode and twists it even more,” according to the game’s producer Tymon Smektała.
In addition to the Hard Mode’s restrictions - longer nights, stronger enemies, less reliance on Survivor sense on mini-maps - and adds Stamina, so players who just rush into a horde will get tired after whacking them around. Easter Egg weapons are no longer allowed. Perhaps the biggest hindrance is that dying in the Nightmare Mode will remove all of the XP above the player’s current level.
However, Nightmare Mode does throw the gamer a bone: gamers who co-op together in Nightmare Mode will earn XP points faster, allowing players a better chance of finding gold tier weapons… Playing Nightmare Mode in co-op will earn you XP faster and increase your chance of finding gold tier weapons.
Dying Light: The Following – Enhanced Edition is a bundle of both Dying Light and the Dying Light expansion, which will be released on the 9th February 2016. Gamers who already own Dying Light can get The Following as a premium expansion.
