You’ve got to hand it to Telltale. Even with their massive lineup and ridiculous release schedule, they’re still managing to try new things within their episodic adventure formula. They’ll soon be adding multiplayer features to their formerly single-player exclusive titles, starting next week when the first episode of Batman releases.
“How could they possibly make a multiplayer adventure game?” you might ask. By allowing an audience to influence dialog choices. If you elect to turn on the Crowd Play mode, the game will generate a URL that can be entered into a phone or computer, allowing anyone you share the address with to tune in. If you’re familiar with the Jackbox Party Pack, you know how the system works.

The Crowd Play mode can support a handful of people sitting around a living room, or an audience up to thousands, and players can choose at the start whether to have the final say over dialog options, or allow the crowd to fully dictate in-game choices. It might seem like this is a move to encourage Twitch streaming of Telltale’s games, allowing for more audience interaction, but the latency involved with streaming could keep that from being viable.
This report comes to us via Shacknews. Batman will be the first series to take advantage of the Crowd Play feature, and its first episode launches on August 2. There are no official announcement regarding the feature’s use in future Telltale titles, but it sounds like a safe bet to expect it going forward.
