Team17 has announced that it will be publishing 16-year-old Melbourne based student and independent developer Anthony Tan’s third person adventure game, Way to the Woods.
The game and its creator first gained attention on Reddit, where screenshots of the game were shared, even being propagated by No Man’s Sky developer Sean Murray.
Way of the Woods tells the tale of a mother deer and her fawn exploring the world, and ”draws on inspirations from Studio Ghibli … lovingly hand-crafted by Anthony Tan and features a beautiful soundtrack by London based musician and composer Jeremy Warmsley.”
Tan, who founded Studio Happy Bee, stated that joining Team17 was ”like a dream come true”, name-checking other prominent indie developers who are part of the studio’s stable, including Playtonic (Yooka-Laylee), Lilith (Allison Road), and Mouldy Toof (The Escapists).
“Way to the Woods is an absolutely beautiful, unique looking game and upon speaking with Anthony, we could not have been more impressed. He’s an incredibly mature person for his age with a very bright future ahead of him and it’s mind blowing what he’s achieved thus far. Team17 is helping nurture a number of studios around the world and I personally can’t wait to help Anthony achieve his goals. We’re extremely excited to be here to share this journey with him,” said Debbie Bestwick, CEO of Team17.
