With the grand re-launch of Secret World Legends just a few weeks away, it's time for Funcom to step up the gear when it comes to divulging in pivotal information.
Originally launched as The Secret World back in 2012, Funcom's Lovecraftian approach to the MMO genre was well received - yet rarely spoken about. Though the title has continued to receive updates, its free-to-play switch into Secret World Legends is arguably its most substantial.
Not content with a simple name change to coincidence with its ditching of a paid access method, Secret World Legends will completely revamp the vast majority of the game - from its starting zones all the way to its combat practices. The plans have been spoken of during the initial announcement earlier this year, but today's video is the first time we've really seen it in action.
Plans To Relaunch 'The Secret World' Were Outlined In Funcom's Year-End Report
The Secret World once employed battle mechanics similar to that of most other MMOs on the market - the almost archaic 'tab-targeting' system. In recent years a number of online role-playing games have attempted to use a reticule-style combat system similar to most single-player third-person games where precision and reaction times are the key to victory. And that's what we'll be seeing with Secret World Legends later this month. 9 usable weapon classes will dictate your actions similar to other class-based MMORPGs.
For one reason or another, Secret World Legends has two release dates; June 26 for Funcom's own service and July 31 for those wanting it through Steam. Curious about what F2P means for this particular title? Read about that here.
