Here's everything we know about Quake Champions!
Quake Champions is the latest in the long-running Quake series and a proper update/remake/sequel to Quake III Arena. It's been in beta for several months and will leave closed beta for Steam Early Access on August 22. That's this Tuesday. The game will also be adding the Doom Marine, aka Doomguy, aka Doom Slayer, aka Corporal Flynn "Fly" Taggart (but that's unofficial). With Doomguy, Quake's Ranger, and Wolfenstein's BJ Blazkowicz, Quake Champions is becoming a proper little id Software celebration. All they need is Commander Keen and some random person from Rage.
Quake III Arena is considered the perfect version of the classic multiplayer arena shooter, with straightforward quick kill-each-other objectives in gorgeous but easy to navigate environments. Quake Champions has 11 different fighters so far, all of which have their own special and passive abilities. BJ Blazkowicz for example can dual-wield weapons, and Ranger wields the same teleport cube that allowed him to defeat the final boss in Quake. While there will be a free-to-play mode with limited characters, the Early Access version will require paying for the Champions Pack, which will be discounted to £19.99/$24.99 for the Early Access period and will unlock all Champions include ones still to be released.
