People awoke this fine morning with expecting a Destiny 2 reveal. They got it - but through a leak. Several hours later, the confirmation came through from Bungie themselves. Destiny 2 releases September 8 - and PC players are formally invited.
For those of us who could never face the thought of playing a first-person shooter on a console with a controller ever again, the worry is finally at an end. For those who did, however. Well... don't go in expecting to be reunited with The Tower. It's not our home anymore.
Taken straight from the words of Bungie themselves, "Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion. He has stripped the city’s Guardians of their power, and forced the survivors to flee. You will venture to mysterious, unexplored worlds of our solar system to discover an arsenal of weapons and devastating new combat abilities. To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home."
Before Its Release, Bungie Considered Destiny To Be The Biggest Gamble Is The Company's Long History
Since the launch of the original Destiny back in 2014, PC players were left out of the equation while Bungie - best known from the greater days of Microsoft's Halo franchise - focused on supporting both current and last gen consoles with little more reason than worrying about how to juggle so many different versions. With PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 support being dropped in its most recent expansion leading to the thought of PC taking their place, our hopes and dreams were not entirely misplaced.
While we know little of how Destiny 2 will stack up compared to its predessor, no current or former player of the original title will get a head-start when it launches in September. Being a story set far in the future, player characters won't be making the return trip. It's a level playing field.
We're told to expect a gameplay live stream on May 18. Of course, PlayStation 4 users will get some sorf of exclusive content.
