Cherryh dropped in February and removed FTL choices from Stellaris, imposing hyper lanes as the sole method of transportation for every empire in the galaxy.
However, wormholes were changed and slightly repurposed into instantaneous travel options through the use of stationary gateways and natural wormholes.
While you can’t make your own wormholes, you can build Gateways or repair disabled ones. We’re going to teach you how to do both.
Disabled Gateways
By far the simplest of the two options, repairing gateways requires only the Gateway Reactivation technology and a load of materials.
Upon encountering a Disabled Gateway and subsequently researching the tech, you can spend 10,000 Energy Credits and 5000 Minerals to restore the faux-Mass Relay to working order. That gives you full access of the gate and control over who can come and go, through the use of open or closed borders.
When the first Gateway in the galaxy is re-activated, the closest Gateway will also be re-activated along with it.
Building Gateways
After finding a disabled Gateway and researching Gateway Reactivation, you’ll eventually get access to the Gateway Construction technology, which allows you to build your own fake space Stargates.
Those are built by construction ships, via the Megastructures menu on the bottom left. You can place a Gateway construction site outside the gravity well of a star system, and the construction site alone will set you back 100 Influence, 10,000 Minerals, and take three years to complete.
After the construction site is complete, you can begin construction of the Gateway proper by investing 10,000 Energy Credits and 15,000 Minerals, and after five years of work, you’ll get your very own Gateway.
You can use this gateway to travel to any other gateway in the galaxy, be it repaired or constructed, and control traffic by opening or closed borders, too.
