Microsoft has revealed details on the in-game celebration events that are coming to three of the Age of Empires titles, all in aid of marking the 25th anniversary of the series. The celebratory period will begin on October 25, and include items, castles, capybaras, and more for Ages of Empires IV, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, and Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition.
For Age of Empires IV, there will be challenges and rewards that “highlight units from across the franchise, including an iconic cheat” up until November 28, explains the developer. There are profile icon unlocks (a capybara presenting a cake, a Chibi Wololo Priest, and a coin to commemorate the 25th anniversary), but that’s not all; there’s a hole host of bonuses relating to challenges, such as loading 16 elephant units into a transport ship, which will net you a sigil depicting elephants crammed into a boat.
Apparently, there will be even more information about further bonuses coming on November 10.
Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition celebrations kick off on the same date, lasting until November 8. More bonuses and unlocks will be being given out, and you’ll get the franchise birthday cake just for logging in via Xbox Live during that period. There are five days of challenges and will unlock graphical mods for Age of Empires II, as well.
Lastly, Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition runs from October 25 until November 20, and the simplest bonus here is a 25th anniversary profile icon that you get just for logging in to Xbox Live. For Age of Empires III the challenges (which must be unlocked in order, and on separate days), will provide unlocks like mods, profile icons, cheats, and hero skins, and will require various different things to be completed, like building farms during multiplayer matches, or training 20 mercenaries.
There will also be a 25th-anniversary broadcast, and you can keep an eye out for that when it hits the Official Youtube Channel.
