Publisher and developer SCS Software today announced that American Truck Simulator’s long-awaited Update 1.40 has finally left open beta and is now available for all players.
Update 1.40 marks a milestone for both American Truck Simulator and its developer, as it adds the new lighting system that greatly improves the look of its game world.
“To prepare for this new lighting system, our teams had to make a lot of changes not only to our graphic renderer, its code, and other functionalities, but also to existing in-game world objects; including a majority of the in-game assets, textures, and materials to better work with the new physical model of the new light system,” the developer said in the Steam post announcing the release of American Truck Simulator’s Update 1.40.
Players also have more extended chassis options to choose from. Extra variety never hurts and you can check out all of the new additions below:
- Freightliner Cascadia: Day cab 4x2

On top of that, drivers can customize it using new bumpers, quarter fenders, mud flaps, hood mirrors, sun visors, grille guards, and different interior colors, alongside 3 new gearboxes.
Owners of American Truck Simulator’s New Mexico and Oregon DLCs will find some new viewpoints scattered across the two states. These are spots that trigger a cutscene showcasing the nearby surroundings, which now look better than ever before thanks to the new lighting system.
