At long last, we're getting new content for the hottest battle royale game of the moment, Apex Legends. The brand new Season 1, Wild Frontier, will be available today, and it brings with it a Battle Pass and a new Legend - the Apex Legends Octane hero.
But how do you get hold of Octane? Is he part of the Battle Pass you have to pay for? Can you buy him separately, or is he free for everyone? We'll show you below how to unlock Octane in Apex Legends, so you can try out the game's newest Legend. But will he be your new favourite? That's the biggest question...
How to Unlock Apex Legends Octane
Octane is the newest Legend to be added to Apex Legends, and so everyone who's been feverishly digging in to Respawn's battle royale is probably excited to try out a brand new character, and let loose on some new abilities to surprise other players. However, the one thing that hasn't been made clear so far is how players can actually get their hands on Octane. Will he be free? Will he be paid for? Do you need the Battle Pass to get him?
The first important part to note is: Octane is not included in the Battle Pass. While the Battle Pass costs at least 950 Apex coins to unlock, it only includes cosmetic items and other rewards like that - not characters. You can get a special Wild Frontier skin for Octane (see above), but not the new Legend himself.
Instead, Octane is unlocked much like Caustic or Mirage - you have to buy him separately. He costs 750 Apex coins, which around $7.50/£5.

Yep! You can buy him with Legend Tokens or 750 Apex Coins. He’s not attached to Battle Pass.

Apex Legends Season 1 and Octane will launch at 10:00 PT/13:00 ET/17:00 GMT today, so if you want to be part of everything you'll need to spend those Apex coins on Octane as well as the Battle Pass. Just remember that you can buy Octane any time, but the Season 1 rewards are only available during Season 1, and will be gone after it's finished!
