Developer Blizzard Entertainment has announced that World of Warcraft: Shadowlands has been delayed and will now launch “later this year”.
The blow of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands’ delay was softened by the news that the pre-patch will arrive later this month, on October 13, introducing “a lot of the groundwork for the expansion”.
This includes the new leveling experience and Exile’s Reach starting zone alongside new character customization options.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Delayed
“[…] as everything started coming together and we’ve been listening to and building upon your feedback, it’s become clear we need a little more time for additional polish, and to balance and iterate on some interlocking pieces—particularly those related to the endgame.” Executive Producer John Hight wrote in a post on the game’s website.
“Shadowlands is one of the most intricate expansions we’ve yet created, and while we’ve made great progress, the challenge of tuning the endgame was compounded by the team having to work from home.”
The Scourge invasion event that will set the stage for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is still set to arrive as part of the pre-patch, only closer to the expansion’s new and currently unannounced release date.
