Bloober Team may be hard at work on the Silent Hill 2 remake, but first up is its reimagining of the Layers of Fear series with a new game titled… Layers of Fear. With the game’s release just three months away, the team has released a 12-minute gameplay video to give fans a glimpse of its progress.
One thing that is evident from the gameplay footage is that “Layers of Fear” is not just a remaster of the original games. The game features a brand new protagonist and setting, with the gameplay footage showcasing the writer situated in an old lighthouse struggling to write a book. Additionally, other protagonists in more familiar locations also make appearances in the game.
Layers of Fear Gameplay Showcase
The writer’s narrative will serve as a bridge between the stories of Layers of Fear and Layers of Fear 2, resulting in a consistent and cohesive experience. As such, the game is part-sequel and part-remake. Interestingly, the game features a lantern that doubles as a weapon, which is a unique addition. Amusingly, it’s worth noting that another major horror game remake in 2023 also includes a similar weapon.
The game is shown running in Unreal Engine 5, and you can definitely tell from a visual standpoint. It’s clearly a massive upgrade on the original games in that regard. Whether it will surpass them in overall quality remains to be seen.
Layers of Fear will be heading to PC and current-gen consoles in June.
