Borderlands 3 showers you with a large number of guns as you progress through its campaign. Borderlands 3 Upgrade Guns
To answer it straight away, no, there doesn’t seem to be a way in which you can improve weapons in Borderlands 3. This means that, at some point, you’ll have to leave behind that fancy legendary shotgun you were lucky to get at level 15, since it’s outshined by other rewards that don’t come with its special effect.
Luckily, the arsenal that flies out of containers and dead enemies is quite varied and will, eventually, reward you a weapon you can grow fond of. While you can’t directly upgrade guns you’ve already looted in Borderlands 3, there are ways of making it more likely that those items you seek roll their best values.
Being unable to upgrade guns in Borderlands 3 hurts the most especially when they’re guaranteed drops like the Amber Management shotgun. That’s where True Vault Hunter Mode comes in. Essentially Borderlands 3’s new game + mode, it allows you to replay the story and associated side quests.
This means that you can leave side quests for when you reach level 50 and only play them then. If you’re looking to maximize chances, you can tackle side quests in True Vault Hunter Mode while also having Mayhem 3 turned on. Do keep in mind that having both turned on does pit you against more difficult enemies, although it also guarantees that item drops will be appropriate to your level.
While it might seem somewhat archaic, this is the only current way of more or less guaranteeing top-tier rolls for guaranteed weapon drops in Borderlands 3. Of course, the other endgame modes, Circle of Slaughter and Proving Grounds, will also yield items appropriate to your level if Mayhem is activated.
