There are several currencies in Defiance 2050, but the rarest and most specialised are the Ark Keys. You need an Ark Key to open Ark Chests, the loot-filled containers that become available at the end of co-op events and major Arkfalls.
But the big question for any Ark Hunter just starting in the game is, how do I get an Ark Key? Let us show you how to get Ark Keys in Defiance 2050! Yes, without even paying!
Defiance 2050 - Where To Get Ark Keys
It's a little obvious, but the first and easiest way to get an Ark Key is on the Defiance Store. They cost 120 Bits, which is Defiance 2050's premium currency. 500 Bits cost £3.99, so unless you really want to support Defiance 2050 this isn't really a long-term solution for Ark Keys.
In-game there are two main sources of Ark Keys, which you can get without paying:
- Main Story Missions - as you progress through the main story campaign, some of the missions will drop Ark Keys. Not all missions will give you them though, and obviously this will be a limited amount - we believe that there are only 5 Ark Keys to get from Story Mode.
- Daily Ark Hunter Bounties - Once you reach EGO Level 50, you can take part in Daily Ark Hunter Contract missions - you can find these on your Goals page, on the Contracts tab. You can do two of these per day and you'll get Ark Keys from them, once you've turned them in at the vendor at The Crater - click here for where to find it.

These are currently the only non-paid sources of Ark Keys in the game. You can hold a maximum of 5 Ark Keys unless you buy the increase to that on the Defiance Store.
