When does Diablo 4 Season 7 start and end? After a sixth season that kicked off with Vessel of Hatred’s launch back on October 8, 2024, the first seasonal refresh of 2025 is taking us on headhunts and letting us learn witchcraft. New information was added to this article on 17th January.
Whereas Season 6 focused on changes to maximum character level (the point where the endgame starts), a new type of world event that introduced Realmwalkers, and trips to Seething Realm dungeons, Season 7 offers further flexibility and variety to builds, adding all-new powers, and introducing bounty-like activities that will have us literally hunting for heads.
Diablo 4’s Public Test Realm (PTR) already gave us a proper look into most of what’s coming with Season 7 in early December. We’re fairly sure not much has changed, as the Christmas break made the time between the test period and the official launch very short. Still, there’s a ‘developer update’ livestream with a full deep-dive preview of the new season happening on January 16 at 11am PST.
Scroll down below to get the full rundown on the Season 7 start date and expected end date, as well as the fresh new content coming to the game.
Diablo 4 Season 7 Release Date
Unless last-minute changes have pushed the date a bit further away, Diablo 4 Season 7 should kick off right after Season 6 ends.
- Diablo 4 Season 7 will start on January 21, 2025.
- Diablo 4 Season 7 should end roughly three months later, around late April.
If you’ve been slowly chipping away at your seasonal journey and premium battle pass since Vessel of Hatred’s launch, make sure to finish everything before January 21, since Diablo 4’s seasonal content is time-limited. For newcomers: The Eternal (non-seasonal) realm gets some of the new bits of content introduced with seasons, but season-specific activities, progression, and storylines are typically retired at the end of each season.
Diablo 4 Season 7 content
Season 7 promises to be a corker after a weaker sixth season that didn’t do much to spice things up on top of all the new content added by the (paid) Vessel of Hatred expansion. With Path of Exile 2 now finally released and shaking things up in the ARPG space as expected, Blizzard could double down on content and a gameplay loop that’s unique to Diablo 4. Whether Season 7’s launch will regain the diehards’ attention remains to be seen, but most of what’s coming sounds exciting on paper.
We highly suggest tuning in to January 16’s livestream to learn everything about the seventh season, but here’s a quick rundown of what we know so far about the content that’s coming to the game:
- The Armory: A new point of interest in cities that allows players to save, load, and name builds (limited to five per character).
- Powers of Witchcraft: Three schools of Hawezar sorcery to learn and master, including Eldritch, Psyche, and Growth & Decay. Plus, rare ‘lost powers’ are being added as well.
- Headrotten & Headhunts: All-new enemies that must be hunted within a ‘Headhunt’ subzone to appease the Tree of Whispers and get occult-related rewards.
- Rootholds: New micro-dungeons where the Headrotten can be hunted. These can only be accessed by using ‘whisper wood’ sigils that are found in Whisper Caches and Silent Chests.
- Occult Gems: New seasonal socketables that are crafted in exchange for the aforementioned heads. They offer extra affixes and are said to compliment the new Witchcraft powers.
- New Runes: Building upon Vessel of Hatred’s rune system, new types of rare and legendary runes are coming with Season 7.
- Reworked Three of Whispers area: The Tree of Whispers will now be slightly busier, so there’s been changes to the visuals and arrangement of the area, with several vendors joining the ‘party’ too.
Following the pre-season livestream, we now have the full picture of what to expect from Season 7 aka ‘Season of Witchcraft’ when it starts next week – it’s been confirmed it’ll kick off on January 21, 2025.
As reported before, the season’s theme and story arc revolves around the spooky (but valuable so far) Tree of Whispers, which has lost some of its heads. This was thought to be impossible (those who beat the base Diablo 4 campaign know why), so it’s up to us to both solve the problem and find out how and why they did it.
According to the devs, 25 new witchy powers will be available this season, and they’re spread across the three schools of Hawezar we’d mentioned. Veterans will be reminded of the vampiric powers from Season 2, but there’s far more going on this time around. As for the fourth school, its powers are ‘lost’ and can only be found at Forgotten Altars that may or may not spawn in dungeons. Some highlights on that front include the fire bats from Diablo 3’s Witch Doctor and a water tornado full of piranhas (yes, really).
The Coven’s questline has its own ‘grind track’ full of rewards as the story progresses, and while the Tree of Whispers will send you to areas filled with Headrotten on season-specific activities called Headhunts, the new enemies will also be found roaming around Sanctuary sometimes. Kill them and bring back heads to the Tree and the Coven. That’s the main way to obtain new witchcraft powers. Inside Headhunt zones, Exposed Roots can be found too, and they’ll allow you to invoke bosses to fight. Again, this is familiar for those who have been around pre-Vessel of Hatred.
Last but not least, since the Tree of Whispers is at the center of this season, that means that bounties (both seasonal and regular) have been boosted, with Ancestral item drop rates boosted and the season-specific craftable gems we’d mentioned before hitting the pool as well.
