Diablo 4 is all about obtaining stronger items for your character as you slowly perfect your build. If your current class happens to be a fan of unique two-handed swords, chances are you may be wondering how to get The Grandfather in Blizzard’s highly-anticipated action-RPG.
Diablo 4’s The Grandfather isn’t sought after just because it’s a cool big sword, although that certainly plays a role. Its modifiers also make it a rather strong item to have for certain builds, especially since equipping it isn’t restricted to a single class.

As in the case of the Harlequin Crest, there doesn’t seem to be a way that allows you to quickly add this unique two-handed sword to your arsenal.
Aside from being unable to specifically target it, it also won’t drop before you reach endgame, since unique items only have a chance to appear when playing on World Tier 3 or 4.
This means that you’ll have to go through Diablo 4’s randomized loot system if you’re looking to get The Grandfather unique two-handed sword.
Slaying demons across the game’s multiple activities, opening chests, or breaking containers is the way to go.
The Tree of Whispers and Helltide allow you to opt for specific types of items as rewards, which could somewhat increase your chances.
Even so, patience and luck play a key role, as is the case in most hack and slash RPGs.
Diablo 4’s The Grandfather unique two-handed sword comes with modifiers that increase damage, stats, and life.
In addition, the item also ignores durability loss, so you won’t have to worry about repairing it. Its unique power increases critical strike damage.
In late June 2023, Lead Class Designer Adam Jackson provided more insight into how obtaining the super rare unique item works.
Much like a few others of its peers, Diablo 4’s The Grandfather only drops from level 85+ enemies. Past that point of the endgame, it can technically be obtained from any source that has a chance of granting unique items. In addition, it always drops at 820 item power.
While these numbers may change as the game’s live service kicks into full gear, it helps to have a better sense of what we have to do in order to wield the super rare unique.
