Dune Awakening is Funcom’s next ambitious MMO that seeks to take the book franchise and the sense of scale everyone loves about the movies and allow you to live out your odyssey on Arrakis. While base building, a suite of abilities, avoiding the deadly sandworms, and more will contribute to that feeling, it all starts with the character creator.
Funcom has put a lot of time and effort into Dune Awakening’s character creator and there are a healthy amount of options to choose from, as well as some vital decisions that will shape the early hours of your journey’s tale. We have compiled all of the options confirmed so far, with a look at the creator itself, after getting to see a brief hands-off gameplay presentation of the game shown at GDC.

Most of these options are what you would expect from MMOs and other games that allow you to create your character. There are an impressive amount of options for each of these categories, which have been shown off ahead of release by Funcom. So there are many possibilities when it comes to changing how you appear, creating a creature of terror, or trying to create someone you would want to date. Whichever suits your style of play.
However, things like makeup color are a little more limited with a set of tones and shades from around half a dozen colours to choose from, rather than a full custom RGB selection option. There is also not a vast selection of tattoos, but enough to find one or two you might like.
Once you have chosen your name in Dune Awakening, you will step out of the character creator and be allowed to choose your birthplace and caste. Some of the options revealed so far are Kaitain, Giedi Prime, Chusuk, and Caladan. Pyon, Na-Familia, and Bondsmen were choices for your caste. In a pre-release presentation, the team said this choice aims to allow players to choose their origin and also inform new Dune fans about parts of the world and lore.
These choices grant you some basic traits, which you can then use when exploring and leveling up.
The final choice is to pick a mentor. The options shown were a Mentat, a Trooper, a Swordsmaster, or a Bene Gesserit Acolyte. These options fundamentally change your training at the start of the game, as well as your starting ability set.
After completing your character creation, you’ll undergo a trial reminiscent of Paul Atreides’ experience with the Bene Gesserit, which involves placing your hand in the box.
That is only the beginning of your journey in Dune Awakening, however, and as you continue your journey your character will continue to grow and change. You will be able to unlock new items and gear as you traverse the barren landscapes and dangerous caverns. So, don’t think that this is the only option you have when it comes to making your character your own.
