The next Battlefield, confirmed to be a return to the modern-day setting of BF3 and 4, hasn’t received a title nor a proper reveal yet. Still, EA and Battlefield Studios are now opening the floodgates for thousands of players to get a chance to playtest the all-new game.
On February 3, publisher EA and studios DICE, Ripple Effect, Criterion, and Motive jointly announced the next step in the new Battlefield’s journey to home consoles and PC. While a 2025 launch has been teased in the past, it definitely looks and sounds like the powers that be are taking their time with the game to ensure it’s in good shape ahead of the public release to avoid another Battlefield 2042 fiasco.
The last entry, released in late 2021, eventually bounced back after a handful of chunky updates and reworks, and has retained a solid player base over the years, but EA’s plans for the next Battlefield included returning to the drawing board and rethinking the entire approach. Now, with Respawn’s Vince Zampella spearheading the franchise and plans that go beyond the next release, four major EA studios are working on Battlefield in a move that seems to mimic Activision’s massive efforts around Call of Duty since the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot.

This next step is built around the passionate Battlefield community and newcomers. Battlefield Labs will be an open program through which players will test the game and provide critical feedback as it enters the final stages of production and polish. Of course, strict NDAs will cover the entire process (at least until the game reaches the beta phase).
You can already sign up for a chance to test the game in the coming months here. EA is also encouraging the biggest diehards to head over to the official Battlefield Discord to get the latest updates directly. Though we don’t have a definite answer regarding the nature of the tests, it appears they’ll be split between on-location and remote (online) opportunities.
