2022 is shaping up to be a great year for games, partly thanks to Elden Ring’s confirmed launch. The developer’s latest effort will feature a sizeable single-player offering but, as opposed to Sekiro before it, will also include a multiplayer component, leading players to wonder if crossplay will be available at launch and if cross-platform support facilitates helping out and fighting others on different platforms.
Elden Ring Crossplay was a decently hot topic even prior to us learning more about how it will actually play. The title flew under the radar for a good while following its announcement but, now that we’ve seen more than 15 minutes of actual gameplay, we have a clearer idea of what to expect. Here’s what we currently know about cross-platform support.
Elden Ring Crossplay Support
From what we can tell, Elden Ring will only feature a limited amount of cross-platform support. Its technical network test, exclusive to consoles, does allow crossplay between generations.
This means that PS4 and PS5 players can experience the games together, as can Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One owners. Unless something changes drastically, we expect the same to be the case at launch.
No official announcement was made to suggest that proper Elden Ring crossplay will be implemented so it’s possible that PC owners won’t be able to see their peers on consoles in the Lands Between. The same applies to Xbox and PlayStation players looking to go beyond their consoles’ ecosystems.
It’s unclear if this will change in the lead-up to launch or afterwards, but we’ll be sure to update this article as soon as we learn more about Elden Ring cross-platform support. While we wait, here’s what we know about the game’s release date and Xbox Game Pass availability</a>.
Elden Ring launches on PC and consoles on February 25. You can grab it from Fanatical, for the discounted price of £41.99/€50.39 or your regional equivalent, as well as other major storefronts.
