Having featured the great plains of Mexico in its first DLC pack, Railway Empire's second expansion is going to do a 180 and reorient the game North. Titled The Great Lakes, this content pack promises to showcase the Canadian wilderness as it should be - with huge metal beasts lumbering alongside it.
Railway Empire: The Great Lakes will be set in the 1860s, with Canada dominated by little more than endless forests and ominous tundras. There'll be nary a few settlements worth mentioning, and even fewer actual towns to worry over, due to the immense distances that need to be covered.
Players' task will essentially be to bridge the distance between the British colonies so that they reach a sort of an economic independence. What better way to do so other than building effective and efficient infrastructure? Of course, since the DLC will feature Canada, you will have to contend with the weather as well.
Namely, developers will expand on the game's existing weather system for all northern regions, and this is going to offer a different challenge than the veterans of Railway Empire are used to. New resources will also be available to incentivise exploration and risk-taking, however, such as furs and winter clothing.
Of course, the DLC pack also comes with two new stock engines, the Achilles (0-4-0) and Canadian (2-8-0), which will only be available via The Great Lakes DLC. Railway Empire: The Great Lakes is now available via Voidu for €6.63.
