Ubisoft could be teasing a new multiplayer mode or brand new game in Far Cry 6. The discovery was made by YouTuber JorRaptor, who found out that scanning in-game QR code reveals a short video with a couple of interesting hints.
The most telling is a map that seems to harken back to Far Cry 4, showing three red arrows alongside several tokens with different animal symbols on them. The content creator reckons that the arrows could represent players, pointing out that series’ has mostly only allowed two players to tackle world content until now.
A shot of the teaser shows an armored tiger attacking a human, which could hint at Far Cry 6 multiplayer mode or a new in-universe game that pits players against each other and wildlife.
The QR code appears on crates marked with the number 1024, which the content creator suggests could hint at an October 24 reveal date, while acknowledging that it being a Sunday makes it rather unlikely.
Ubisoft has not said anything about Far Cry 6 multiplayer being planned, but a separate game that blends elements from different entries in the series wouldn’t be too out of the ordinary, given its new declared focus on free-to-play titles.
That being said, the publisher has recently announced two free-to-play shooters, in the shape of Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland and Tom Clancy’s XDefiant, which makes us think that having yet another one on the way might be a tad strange, even if it would offer a different spin on things.
The teaser could also not be pointing at a Far Cry 6 multiplayer mode or a new game, instead being a nod at the latest entry’s post-launch content, which brings back villains from past titles, including Far Cry 4’s Pagan Min.
Far Cry 6 launches on October 7 and is headed to PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna.
