Publisher and developer Crate Entertainment has announced that survival city builder Farthest Frontier’s 1.0 release has been delayed until 2025. Originally slated to happen this year, we will now have to wait a few extra months before it leaves Steam Early Access.

Several factors played into the decision, which the developer acknowledged “is not what many of you would like to hear,” including performance-related worries, unannounced improvements, and more.
Farthest Frontier 1.0 Release Delayed Until 2025
As far as performance goes, the developer noted in a forum post that it “is simply not quite where we would like it to be yet,” pledging to continue working on “squeezing more frames out of the game” before Farthest Frontier leaves early access next year.
In addition, the team behind the title is “still tinkering with new and unannounced improvements, which predictably bloats the schedule.”
A third reason for Farthest Frontier’s 1.0 release being delayed is tied to how its potential impact wouldn’t be as strong as possible, were it to launch in the next couple of months.
“With the holidays rapidly approaching, this is the time of year when big publishers are going to drown the market with advertising, eager for your holiday shopping coin,” the developer explains.
“Similarly, February tends to be a month when everyone’s wallets have just recovered from the holiday rush, so in come the big AAA releases. Next February is already looking packed. December-February is not the time of year, in our opinion, for an indie game to try and get discovered amidst the chaos and noise of big releases.”
Although Farthest Frontier already has a dedicated core fan base, the developer wants to ensure its 1.0 release gets as much attention as possible, which is why it decided to postpone it until Spring 2025.
Among the features planned for the title’s full version count a new tech tree, three different victory conditions, each with an associated monument building, and more.
Farthest Frontier entered early access back in August 2022, when it was already looking promising. Multiple major patches have since added new buildings, addressed balance changes, improved quality of life, and much more, easily making it one game to look out for next year.
