Speculation surrounding Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader’s future DLC was present even prior to the game’s launch and the release of its first major post-launch content update, Void Shadows, hasn’t done much to stop fans from wondering which threats we’ll move on to face once its first Season Pass is complete.
Yet, while Games Workshop’s grimdark universe is vast enough to have no shortage of mysterious, dark places to explore and ruthless factions to ally or antagonize, future DLC for Rogue Trader, while possible, isn’t officially confirmed at the moment.
Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader Future DLC
As much as holding back announcements for just the right time is a common marketing practice, this isn’t why we haven’t heard much about a potential second Season Pass for Rogue Trader.
As Community Manager OwlcatStarrok explains on Reddit, future premium content for the CRPG “will depend on the reception of the first two DLCs.”
This essentially means that a second Rogue Trader Season Pass will only happen if Void Shadows and the upcoming Lex Imperialis DLC will sell enough copies for the developer to justify dedicating resources to it.
“Void Shadows is going well,” OwlcatStarrok noted in the same reply. “But it needs to go EXTRAORDINARY well, since it was heavily overbudgeted due to the delay. We’ll see how it goes over time. But the team is really happy to see the audience’s reaction to the DLC. Definitely looks like it ended up in the right spot.”
Initially slated to launch in early August 2024, Void Shadows ended up being delayed to September 24. It is integrated into Rogue Trader’s main story, adding around 15 hours of new content that mainly focus on a Genestealer Cult running rampant in the bowels of the voidship players call home.
Lex Imperialis, on the other hand, was initially slated for a December 2024 launch but may also end up delayed.
We’ll likely only learn whether or not Rogue Trader will get a second Season Pass or other future DLC at some point next year.
Owlcat Games’ previous title, Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous, did receive two season passes, so at least there’s precedent. While we wait for more details, you may want to learn when patch 1.3 and The Grim Darkness mode will release.
