UPDATE OCTOBER 22: Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition officially releases in early November.
Publisher Rockstar Games today announced the rumored Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, confirming that it is, indeed, real and bound to release later this year.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition includes the series’ PS2-era titles – Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas –, featuring “across-the-board upgrades including graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements for all three titles, while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals.”
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is set to launch on PC, as a Rockstar Games Launcher exclusive, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch, followed by a mobile launch on both iOS and Android in the first half of 2022.
The publisher has also confirmed that it will remove the classic versions of all three games from digital storefronts starting with the week of October 11, but hasn’t clarified if existing owners will benefit from a discount or not when purchasing the trilogy.
The announcement was sparse in other details, but we will learn more about Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition over the coming weeks. The trilogy was also announced as we’re coming up on the 20th anniversary of GTA III, game that would leave its mark on open-world games as a whole and pave the way for the series’ success.
On October 22, Rockstar Games announced that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition will launch digitally on November 11, its enhancements including “brilliant new lighting and environmental upgrades, with high-resolution textures, increased draw distances, Grand Theft Auto V-style controls and targeting, and much more.”
