Update: According to Industry Analyst Benji-Sales, Halo: The Master Chief Collection peaked at over 161k concurrent players, making it the 3rd biggest launch on Steam for the year, or 2nd biggest if we don’t count Destiny 2 which launched as a free-to-play title.
Considering how the title is also available as part of the Xbox Game Pass for PC, the numbers likely go even higher, resulting in quite a stellar return for Halo on PC. Website SteamSpy estimates that between 2,000,000 and 5,000,000 have picked up the Master Chief Collection on Valve’s storefront.

The long wait has seen Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s player count surge well past 100,000 concurrent players.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection Steam Player Count
At the time of writing, website SteamCharts.com hasn’t yet logged exact numbers, however Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s Steam page reports 139,548 concurrent players duking it out in Halo: Reach, as the above screenshot tells. Earlier today the number went over 150k concurrent players.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s first step on PC took place today with the launch of Halo: Reach. In spite of being a relatively old game – released in 2010 –, the player count clearly suggests that there were plenty of PC fans interested in playing Halo on their platform of choice.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Halo: Reach are also the top two games under Steam’s Top Selling tab. With Microsoft already committed to bringing more of their titles over to Steam, perhaps a response like this will make the company think about bringing more Xbox exclusives over with time.
