Arrowhead Game Studios’ phenomenal isometric twin-stick shooter, Helldivers, burst onto the PlayStation scene some time ago and swiftly secured its place as one of the standout games of 2015.
Known for its mercilessly intense battles against extraterrestrial foes, this game delivered a fast-paced co-op experience that won it a fervent cult following. Its success undeniably paved the way for a promising future, and it’s exciting to contemplate the potential of a sequel.
Eight years on, at Sony’s PlayStation Showcase, Helldivers 2 was finally revealed, and it’s had quite the shift in perspective. It’s still a cooperative shooter against big nasty alien bugs that wouldn’t look out of place in Starship Troopers (a common theme with the reveal). But now it has become a clearly bigger budget third-person game.
The reveal had me eager to know when exactly I could get my hands on Helldivers 2, and here we’ll look at all we know about Helldivers 2 and its release date.
Helldivers 2 Release Date
Sony and Arrowhead initially had the game penciled in for a 2023 release, but that didn’t come to pass. During September’s State of Play showcase, they revealed that Helldivers 2’s release date would occur on February 8, 2024.

Helldivers 2’s story sees an elite group of space-faring soldiers known as the Helldivers spread peace, liberty, and managed democracy across the universe the only way they know how; with big guns and bigger military budgets than an entire continent.
The player is put in the super boots of a Helldiver and sent to hostile alien worlds to eradicate the perceived threat to Super Earth. If that sounds very much like Starship Troopers, then you’d be absolutely correct. Helldivers 2’s reveal had exactly the tone of Paul Verhoeven’s satirical sci-fi schlocker.
