Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was announced during 2024’s The Game Awards as the newest upcoming title from The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog.
Having been in development since 2020, the fresh IP trades the grounded worlds of the studio’s recent work for a futuristic setting. When its release date comes around, the game will put us in the shoes of dangerous bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun, it sees us attempting to escape Sempiria, a mysterious planet that seems to swallow anyone attempting to explore it.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’s announcement trailer, which you can find embedded below, didn’t reveal a whole lot about is release date or how it plays, but the developer did shed some light in an accompanying article on the PlayStation Blog.
Described as the studio’s “wildest, most creative story yet,” the people behind it are working to ensure that this new IP “lives up to the Naughty Dog tradition of creating an emotional, character-driven epic journey.
“Our narrative goals are rivaled only by our gameplay ambitions. This will be the deepest gameplay in Naughty Dog’s history, taking our learnings from our previous franchises and pushing them beyond anything we’ve ever done before.”
Tati Gabrielle plays its determined protagonist while Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are confirmed as working on the game’s score.
Although specific gameplay details weren’t shared just yet, the final moments of the announcement trailer does offer a glimpse at the start of a combat encounter.
Jordan brandishes a one-handed laser sword before charging an imposing, three-armed robotic foe that wields a massive laser greatsword.
She also seems to carry a holstered pistol with her, suggesting that both ranged and melee combat could play a role in battle.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is currently in development for PS5. More details about its release date, gameplay, and whether or not it is coming to PC and other platforms will likely be shared over the coming months.
