Kerbal Space Program - often known simply as KSP - has announced their next release Shared Horizons. This free update continues the educational element of their NASA missions, this time in partnership with the European Space Agency. The release will crash to Earth on July 1st 2020 for PC, but you’ll have to wait until later in the year for the PS4 and Xbox One.
It’s not rocket science, but in Kerbal Space Program, it really is. The game challenges the player to build and manage a space program, engineering everything from rockets to rovers, launching missions to the Mun, and trying to bring their astronauts home safely. With Shared Horizons, KSP is steering the ship in the direction of Mercury.
Kerbal Space Program Shared Horizons Update
“We are excited to partner with the ESA to bring their actual missions and spacecraft to Kerbal Space Program for the first time,” said Michael Cook of Private Division. This first mission will see the player following in the footsteps of BepiColombo - the ongoing seven year journey of the ESA and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency to explore a strange new world, Mercury.
The second mission involves gathering important data about comets with Rosetta, a lander launched in 2004 whose mission ended in 2016 with an intentional hard-landing, gathering further data all the way down. Kerbal Space Program is also introducing ESA-themed space suits, the Ariane rocket, and new parts and science experiments to perform.
Shared Horizons releases on July 1st for PC and later in the year for consoles. It will be available as a free update to all owners of the base game, currently available at a steep discount on Steam until May 25th.
