Developers Bloober Team and Anshar Studios today unveiled a new gameplay trailer for upcoming psychological horror game Layers of Fear, showcasing how it makes use of Unreal Engine 5’s new technologies.
Counting among the first Unreal Engine 5 games that we’ll actually get to play, Layers of Fear “was built from the ground-up to maximize all of the engine’s performance capabilities, creating a holistic, immersive horror experience with unparalleled technical specifications,” according to its developers.

The title’s dynamic lighting is powered by UE5’s Lumen global illumination. The Niagara visual effects help “create particle effects in real time,” while the Action System Controls “improve the development process and optimization of all gameplay mechanics.”
Layers of Fear will launch with ray tracing, HDR, and 4K resolution support. Its narrative unites Layers of Fear, Layers of Fear 2, and all DLCs into one single experience.
It will also include a new chapter called The Final Note, that provides an alternate perspective on the first game’s events, and tie together each entry in the series through the new story of The Writer.
We can also expect new core gameplay mechanics, like the lantern, alongside updated music composed by Arek Reikowski.
Layers of Fear is slated to release this June on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. You can check out its latest gameplay trailer on YouTube.
