The LOTRO Getting In Line To Connect error has been plaguing players since the MMO’s early days, occurring either randomly, after updates or upon reinstalling the game.
Despite having been around for a while, the exact cause of the LOTRO Getting In Line To Connect error is tough to pinpoint. This makes an already aggravating issue worse, as the error crashes your client upon attempting to log in.

Although there currently isn’t an universal fix for the issue, some users have found succesful workarounds for The Lord of the Rings Online’s Getting In Line To Connect error.
One fix for the LOTRO Getting In Line To Connect error involves opening the Documents\TheLordoftheRingsOnline folder, moving the UserPreferences or UserPreferences64 file out of it, and launching the game. The launcher should no longer crash and a new file will be created.
Another potential workaround involves downloading the DirectX web installer from the Microsoft website and running it. Completing the installation was enough to fix the LOTRO Getting In Line To Connect error for some.
A more recent fix involves running the launcher as administrator, navigating to the Proxy tab in the LOTRO launcher’s options menu, then selecting No Proxy as long as you’re not using one to connect to the internet.
