NetEase Games and Marvel Games are joining forces to develop a new team-based PVP shooter set in the Marvel Universe, titled Marvel Rivals, it’s in development for the PC and will be free-to-play.
Marvel Rivals development is being led by former Call of Duty and Battlefield developers. Players can assemble a team of Super Heroes and Super Villains from the Marvel Multiverse, using unique superpowers across a dynamic lineup of destructible maps.
When does Marvel Rivals Release and will there be an alpha test?
Marvel Rivals is currently under development for PC, and while there is no confirmed release date yet, those interested will have the opportunity to play an alpha test version in May. There has been no mention of versions for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S.
The game will feature playable characters from the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, and various other factions within the Marvel Multiverse. During the alpha test, players will be able to try out over a dozen characters, including Black Panther, Spider-Man, Magneto, and Magik.
The battles in Marvel Rivals incorporate tactical elements, using Hero Synergy to execute combined attacks between heroes. For instance, players can team up as Rocket Raccoon riding on Groot’s back to confront enemies as a formidable duo or unleash Hulk’s Gamma energy to power up Iron Man’s armor for significant damage. This system introduces a variety of combos for players to explore and master.
NetEase didn’t provide too many details on the maps, but players can expect to engage in battles across a range of settings, from Asgard to the Tokyo of 2099. Fresh locations and characters from the Marvel universe will be introduced through seasonal updates.
“We are overjoyed to bring Marvel Rivals to players around the world. We have always loved Marvel’s universe and its characters, and we are so excited to develop this game,” said Marvel Rivals Producer, Stephen Wu.
“Marvel Rivals is one of our most ambitious game development projects.” said Jay Ong, Head of Marvel Games.
“Since the conceptualization of the game and throughout our collaboration, our Marvel team has poured our hearts and souls into this project, and we are thrilled to work with the incredible team at NetEase Games to help deliver the ultimate Super Hero team-based PVP shooter.”
Marvel Rivals is available to wishlist on Steam.
