The Azoth Staff and its upgrades are crucial tools to have for mid to late-game content. They are used in the open world Corrupted Portal and Breach events and are a requirement for expedition dungeons.
Getting the staff and upgrades is as simple as following the main questline, but you can make it easier for yourself by following this guide.
New World - Azoth Staff and Upgrade Guide
Your first quest to get an Azoth Staff varies by your starting location, but all require you to travel to Fisherman’s Bend on the border between Windsward and Monarch’s Bluff. Once there, Yonas Alazar will send you on a long quest line to gather the pieces of the staff.
None of these quests is particularly challenging, especially if other players are taking them on at the same time. That said, to complete the whole chain requires a roughly level 20 character, although you can begin as low as 12.
Most of these quests involve traveling around the starting regions of the map, collecting quest items or talking to NPCs, but there are some common items you will need to forge the staff as well.
It is a good idea to keep the following in your inventory during the quest chain, as otherwise you’re in for some very annoying back and forth with Yonas.
- 3 Water</i>
- 3 Petalcap</i>
- 3 Rivercress Stems</i>
- 5 Silver Ingots</i>
</ul>
Once you've completed this quest chain you will obtain the first tier of the Azoth Staff that can be equipped to its unique inventory slot.
New World - Azoth Upgrade Guide
As you level up your character, more quests will become available that will upgrade the tier of your staff and allow you to complete higher-level events and expeditions.
- Level 23 - T1 - Forge Your Azoth Staff
- Level 29 - T2 - Covenant Commitment
- Level 38 - T3 - The Alliance
- Level 50 - T4 - Race for the Box
- Level 60 - T5 - The Tempest's Heart
From the T2 quest onwards, Yonas Alazar is found at the egotistically named Fort Alazar in northern Brightwood and this is where you'll be visiting when wanting upgrades.
