Zen Studios, of CastleStorm fame, has unvelied “the single-largest production of its 15-year history” in the guise of Operencia: The Stolen Sun. A turn-based RPG meant as a homage to classic first-person dungeon crawlers, the title is aiming for a 2019 release on Steam, with other platforms to be announced at a later date.
Perhaps its biggest draw, the title’s setting is inspired by a land often referenced in Central European folktales. Its goal is to unify the stories pertaining to this land, “most of which have never been depicted in video games”, into one experience. Operencia’s main quest revolves around freeing an abducted sun king to save the land from being cast into perpetual night.
“Zen has gone to great lengths to ensure that everything in Operencia: The Stolen Sun feels familiar to RPG players, yet still modern and novel. Through a classic tile-based movement system, players explore the far reaches of the land, engaging in strategic turn-based battles at every turn.”, Zen Studios said in a press release.
Players can expect to guide 7 “fully upgradable” characters through 13 levels filled with over 50 enemy types, traps and puzzles. Hushed voices also mention a three-headed dragon.
You can drop by Operencia: The Stolen Sun’s Steam page for more details. Completing this closed beta sign-up form also gives a chance at trying the game out before launch.
