Overwatch treats its players to several events throughout the year, giving them themed rewards and limited-time content that add some spice to the overall experience. Considering it’ll be a while before the sequel lands, it’s up to stuff like the Summer Games 2021 event to pick up the slack.
The Overwatch Summer Games 2021 event will be the fifth of its kind and, while Blizzard hasn’t yet shared much in the way of details about it or its start date, we can get a sense of what to expect by looking at the past years’ events.
The Overwatch Summer Games 2021 event acts as the hero shooter’s sports-and-summer-themed event, its start date usually occurring at the beginning of August. The majority of them have started on a Tuesday, so we expect this year’s event to begin on or around August 3.
Since they usually last for three weeks, we anticipate that the Overwatch Summer Games 2021 event end date will come on August 24. Naturally, things can change and Blizzard might decide to delay the event or see it kicking off earlier, as it did in 2019.

The Summer Games usually mark the return of the limited-time Lucioball mode and its neat, futuristic spin on soccer. They also usually introduce a new set of cosmetics, including sport-themed and beach-themed skins for different characters, which are often considered its highlights, alongside special loot boxes.
Some of the sprays, icons, and skins will likely be obtainable from weekly challenges that involve winning 3, 6, and 9 matches, respectively.
Blizzard is bound to reveal more about the Overwatch Summer Games 2021 event, its start, end date, and content over the course of the coming months. We’ll update this article as soon as we learn more.
