Among Path of Exile 2’s 12 character classes, the Sorceress class is the one you’ll want to pick if relying solely on the power of the elements to wipe out entire screens of foes has any appeal to you.
A character who prefers fighting at range, PoE 2’s Sorceress class purely focuses on the intelligence attribute while making use of both familiar and new skills to zap, freeze, and burn any foe standing in her way.
Path of Exile 2 Sorceress Class
One skill that veterans of the ARPGs original incarnation will recognize is Spark, whose bouncing electrical attacks are excellent at clearing smaller, tighter spaces, especially when paired with the Pierce support gem.
By contrast, Arc shines in single-target situations, dealing more damage to the first targets hit. Ice Nova can save you from situations in which you’re surrounded, hitting enemies around them while chilling or freezing them.
Frost Bomb reduces enemy cold resistances, opening them up for the other cold damage-based attacks in the PoE 2 Sorceress class’ arsenal. One suck skill is Comet, which drops a massive but slow icy ball of destruction on top of tougher foes and bigger packs.
Adding to the class’ defensive arsenal, Arctic Armor builds up icy protection around you after you stand still for a few minutes. Enemies who land hits are dealt cold damage before becoming frozen.
Rather than reserving mana, buffs like Arctic Armor reserve Spirit, a new resource dedicated to them. It can be found on item mods, the passive skill tree, or by equipping a Scepter in your off-hand slot.
Caster weapons also received a notable change in Path of Exile 2 that will affect the Sorceress class. Rather than just an awkward melee attack, each staff now has an in-built spell such as Fireball that is free-to-cast.
Different staves offer different skill types that also cover utility. Unleash is one such example. After it’s used, it prompts characters to triple-cast whichever spell they use next, resulting in lots of potentially deadly combinations.
Another skill to consider when dealing with tougher foes is Mana Tempest. It creates a circle of power on the ground, draining mana while empowering all your spells.
PoE 2’s improved weapon swap system also enables its Sorceress class to specialize into more than just a single element type, increasing the number of potential build options.
The game’s skill menu now allows you to pick which weapon sets are used when casting individual skills.
Characters automatically switch to the assigned weapons while casting their respective skills, becoming more versatile in the process.
Furthermore, each equipped weapon set has its own passive skills that can be assigned to separate choices on the sequel’s expansive passive skill tree.
It is worth noting that this only applies to points earned from Skill Books, which may come in limited amounts.
Weapon sets that improve skills based on a certain element can be enhanced using passives of the same element. When switching weapons, the assigned passives also automatically swap.
The video embedded below showcases a handful of other skill combinations available to PoE 2’s Sorceress class when using meta gems that may or may not change in the game’s full version.
From what we’ve seen so far, Path of Exile 2’s Sorceress class is shaping up to be a ranged spellcaster with a rich arsenal of destructive and protective elemental magic.
Although squishier than the likes of the Druid and perhaps less mobile than the Monk, it has access to cool tricks of its own that should fulfill that classic mage fantasy.
Path of Exile 2 will host its first closed beta test in June 7, 2024. With a bit of luck, the Sorceress will count among its playable classes.
