Regardless if you’re an outlaw or law-abiding wandered in Red Dead Online, you won’t get far running on an empty stomach. Thankfully, the game lets you tap into your inner chef, often tasking you with preparing specific types of food, using ingredients like Succulent Fish Meat.
But before you can cook it and savor the results of your hard work, you’ll first need to track down and obtain Red Dead Online’s Succulent Fish Meat which, it turns out, doesn’t exactly grow on trees. Instead, you’re going to need to get your hands on specific types of fish that only spawn in certain locations. This guide points you in the direction of a few good spots and clears up how cooking works.
You can only obtain Succulent Fish Meat from Sockeye Salmon and Steelhead Trout. We’ve covered some locations where you can find the former in a separate guide, so feel free to check it out. If you’re looking to complete the daily quest, you only need to track down one type of fish.
As for the Steelhead Trout, you’re going to want to stick to the waters in the southern portion of Red Dead Online’s large map. One particularly great location is the section of the Dakota River running between the abandoned settlement of Limpany and Bard’s crossing in New Hanover.
The waters around Lemoyne’s southern portion are also known for hosting it as is the San Luis River in New Austin, to the southwest. The Lower Montana River, and particularly the area around Stillwater Creek is another great spot. Equipping the Special River Lure increases your chances of actually catching both the Sockeye Salmon and the Steelhead Trout, so it’s a good idea to grab some before heading out to fish.
With Succulent Fish Meat in your satchel, you then need to head to a campfire. You’ll easily find them in camps close to major towns like Valentine and even while roaming around. Just be aware that some camps might be occupied and not everyone is a fan of company.
When you’ve found a campfire, simply choose the Craft/Cook option, find the Plain Succulent Fish and, if you’ve any herbs on you, season it for an extra boost to one of your stats. Oregano improves Stamina, thyme improves Dead Eye, while wild mint gives your Health a boost.
