The more you get to define your build in Remnant 2, the quicker you start to wonder abut the maximum trait points number and whether or not there’s a cap that limits how many passive effects your build can tap into.
Remnant 2’s Trait Points are obtained by picking up Tomes of Knowledge found across its areas and defeating its challenging bosses. They are used to improve several Traits that grant a variety of passive benefits, from additional health to improved weapon handling and shorter skill cooldowns.
Remnant 2 Maximum Trait Points
At launch, Remnant 2’s maximum number of Trait Points appeared to be capped at 60, limiting the selection of Traits players could choose. This cap was later increased by 5 in Patch 08.04.23, as confirmed by Gunfire Games in the patch notes. Additionally, once players reach the Trait Cap, the Tome of Knowledge now grants Scrap and EXP instead.
While this certainly is more limiting than receiving an endless supply as you keep on replaying the game, it does ask you to consider more carefully which Traits best suit your build.
It is worth noting that the cap above applies to Trait Points you collect from Tomes of Knowledge and downed bosses.
Up to 25 Trait Points are given to you automatically at certain points during your playthroughs. Ten are awarded as you level up your first archetype; ten more if you choose to use dual archetypes.
Then, each starting archetype grants a total of five Trait Points that are automatically assigned to your core traits. You can identify these thanks to their orange color, as opposed to the white of the points you spend yourself.
If you’re open to going beyond what the game itself offers and relying on help from the community, one recent mod increases Remnant 2’s Trait Points cap to 291, allowing you to benefit from considerably more passive bonuses.
