Risk of Rain Returns launched for PC and Nintendo Switch on November 8th and has achieved both commercial success and critical acclaim, culminating in a peak of 45,141 concurrent players on Steam. What do we know about developer Hopoo Games and publisher Gearbox Publishing’s plans for other console ports, could we see it released on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5?
Risk of Rain Returns breathes new life into the classic title, enhancing the signature roguelike adventure with fresh loot combinations, brand-new Survivors, a revamped multiplayer experience, and beloved content from Risk of Rain 2.
Will Risk of Rain Returns release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S?
Gearbox Publishing has yet to announce intentions to port Risk of Rain Returns to additional platforms such as PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, or Xbox One. Currently, there’s no official statement confirming its release on these consoles. However, given the title’s success, it’s reasonable to anticipate that Gearbox might aim to expand the game’s reach to a broader audience in the future.
Risk of Rain 2 was released on PC, Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Currently, there’s a discount for the PlayStation 4 version, which you can purchase for just £4.99 on the PlayStation Store. While there are no dedicated versions for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the game can be played on these consoles through backward compatibility.
Our point is that previous Risk of Rain installments have been available on more than just PC and Nintendo Switch, so it’s likely that Risk of Rain Returns will eventually make its way to other platforms such as PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, or Xbox One. Rest assured, once Gearbox Publishing confirms this expansion, we’ll promptly inform you of the release date. You can find out more about crossplay support here, which is also something that isn’t available right now.
You can pick Risk of Rain returns up on Steam and the Nintendo eShop.
