As with many games in early access - or just in general depending on your impulse to meddle - from time to time you may need access to the game’s save files. From backing up to editing values, knowing where your save files are located is always a good idea.
Scrap Mechanic doesn’t make it as easy as most games to locate your save files, but with a little knowhow you can access the locations easily enough.
Scrap Mechanic Save File Location
There are two locations for different types of saves:
- The first is the default Steam folder which can be found at\Steam\steamapps\common\Scrap Mechanic.
- However, for most purposes you'll need to access \Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Axolot Games\Scrap Mechanic\User\ which contains folders for your Save and Blueprints.
If you can’t see your %APPDATA% you might need to show hidden files in explorer. To do this in Windows 10, type folder into your Start menu search, click File Explorer Options and navigate to the view tab. From here you can look for Hidden files and folders and toggle it to Show hidden files, folders and drives. Apply and you’re ready to proceed.
Mods are one of the key reasons you may want to backup or edit your game files and you can check out our Best Scrap Mechanic Mods to browse through some of the most popular.
