Silent Hill: The Short Message stands on its own as a survival horror experience, branching out from the primary Silent Hill series. This spin-off is not connected to the narrative of the existing games. Developed using Unreal Engine 5, it provides features that may not be compatible with older generation consoles such as the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
You might be wondering if Silent Hill: The Short Message will be released for the PlayStation 4. Konami has confirmed that the game is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and is currently available as a free-to-play title on the PlayStation Store. There was no mention of a PS4 version, likely due to the game’s requirements that may not be supported efficiently by the older hardware.
Is Silent Hill: The Short Message going to be available on PlayStation 4?
We haven’t received any official information regarding availability on platforms beyond the PlayStation 5, and Konami has probably entered into an exclusivity agreement with Sony, making it exclusive to the PS5 for an unknown period. We don’t think the PS4 could run it very well, so it’s unlikely it will be released on this platform in the future.
Should anything change over the year we will update you and let you know what platforms it’s going to be released for.
Silent Hill: The Short Message stands alone as a title unconnected to any other games in the franchise. After receiving messages from her friend Maya, Anita arrives at a crumbling apartment block infamous for its eerie tales of suicides.
Driven by an irresistible urge to enter, Anita’s grasp on reality starts to disintegrate as she confronts surreal, otherworldly dimensions, haunted by a malevolent presence.
“This is the first SILENT HILL title we are bringing you as part of the wider series revival. It deals with serious modern-day issues such as social media, bullying, and suicide, and concentrates the essence of the series — the feeling of being psychologically hemmed in and cornered — into a short window.” said Silent Hill Series Producer, Motoi Okamoto.
“We hope that a new generation of players who are new to SILENT HILL, and of course, our long-time fans of the series as well, will all take the opportunity to experience this game.” Okamoto concluded.
There are no plans for a PlayStation 4 release for now, but you can pick it up from the PlayStation Store on PlayStation 5.
