Sons of the Forest features several new additions that look prone to improve its survival game formula, one of the most notable being the addition of AI companions.
The Sons of the Forest companions list includes a number of AI-controlled characters that come to the aid of both solo players who might find its island a bit too harsh to brave alone and groups who could use an extra hand with that whole surviving business.
Sons of the Forest Companion List
The first details regarding Sons of the Forest’s companion list come from an IGN preview, which reveals Kelvin as potentially the first AI sidekick players encounter.
A fellow survivor of the helicopter crash that brought you to the island, the trauma he experienced during the event rendered him unable to speak but still very capable.
Using a notepad, players can issue orders to companions, who happen to be great at handling some of the grind involved in gathering resources and carrying them around.
Sons of the Forest’s companions can also help fight off enemies and have behavioral patterns of their own. Kelvin, for example, sits down when he’s tired or searches for water to drink when thirsty.
Treating companions poorly can also reduce their productivity and, should you ever decide you no longer want them to tag along, a shot to the head is a straightforward if inelegant solution.
Sons of the Forest Companions List
- Kelvin - Elite soldier who survived the crash
- Virginia - Three-legged mutant
Although you can’t have an army of the same companion helping you out, Sons of the Forest is confirmed to feature several of them.
The preview above also mentions three-legged mutant Virginia as a potential AI-controlled buddy, although her skittish behavior suggests that convincing her to join you might require some work.
Other Sons of the Forest companions can be discovered on the island, each with their own AI and habits.
That being said, it’s unclear at the moment if you can have several different companions tagging along at the same time.
This is what we know so far about Sons of the Forest’s companion list. More details should be shared in the lead-up to and after the game’s February 2023 launch.
