Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 developer Saber Interactive’s post-launch plans for one of 2024’s biggest hits are quite promising so far and extend well into 2025 at least. Regardless, players and modders have been hard at work too, looking for new ways to spice things up and customize the single-player and co-op experiences.
If you’re looking for the latest updates on Season 3, its potential release window, and what it may include, we’ve got you covered here. In the meantime, you can check out some of the best Space Marine 2 mods we’ve found so far before learning all about the studio’s stance on user-made content.
Space Marine 2 modding will be supported by Saber Interactive under one condition
As the modding scene of Space Marine 2 continues to flourish, game director Dmitriy Grigorenko has commented on the matter via Focus Entertainment’s official forums. It appears that community engagement has been far bigger than expected, which is why the official content plans are being upgraded and why special attention must be paid to mods, which “will no doubt contribute to this game’s longevity,” according to the team.
According to Grigorenko, “a non-negligible amount of recent server stability issues are related to mods.” Moreover, some players are reporting corrupted save files after being matched with people using mods. While most mods require players to be disconnected from the online servers, others don’t. To make sure that everyone has fun in their own way and without fearing bans or other problems, mods will be prohibited from public online sessions at some point in December. Based on our previous knowledge, this big change could arrive alongside the Dark Angels chapter pack update.
On the other hand, Focus and Saber are encouraging the most dedicated players to use mods in private Operations lobbies, with custom Eternal War lobbies inheriting all those functionalities when they arrive in the near future too.
Furthermore, Grigorenko adds that Saber Interactive “will also be providing an easy entry point to our backend for games with mods installed, so modders won’t have to spend time hacking the game executable after each patch.” But perhaps the bigger surprise is that the developer will be releasing** “some”** of its own tools to boost the creation of mods, a very rare concession for a modern AAA video game based on a famous IP. Time to celebrate, brothers!
