System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition is coming - this has now been officially confirmed by the developers themselves, Nightdive Studios, and we’re quite excited at the prospect.
It’s also interesting to note that the announcement of SS2EE has been made on the 20th anniversary of the original game’s release , which makes for a lovely milestone if you’re a fan. That said, we know virtually nothing about the game as of yet.
As it stands, the monumental update that System Shock: Enhanced Edition delivered to the original related mostly to QoL and backend improvements, such as mouselook and modding support. System Shock 2, however, already has all of that - and lots more - so we’re left wondering how Nightdive aims to enrich the original this time around.
Furthermore, System Shock: Enhanced Edition was released for free to all owners of the original game, and while we can presuppose that Nightdive will do the same for System Shock 2 owners, this shouldn’t be assumed until official confirmation is made. Stay tuned for more info as soon as we get it.
