After its revival earlier this year, Telltale Games is looking to change some things around when it comes to how it develops titles, using a new engine but also changing its philosophy on how it approaches episodic titles.
Telltale Games initially closed back in 2018, its assets and a number of IPs being acquired by holding company LGC Entertainment back in August.
Telltale Games New Engine, Episodic Titles
“From a development perspective, we’re doing things pretty differently. We are using a new engine, and building a new tool and pipeline. We are creating a hub and spoke production model that will see teams all over the world contributing to the game,”, Telltale Games CEO Jamie Ottilie told website Gamedaily.biz.
“We are creating the stories episodically, but how they will be released is still to be determined. I think the important distinction here is that we will no longer be developing episodically. If we do release the game in episodes, all of them will be ready before the first one hits the store,”, he continued, detailing the developer’s stance on episodic titles.
The new Telltale Games aims for “a measured approach to growth” and is currently working with former Telltale employees on a freelance basis.
The developer re-announced The Wolf Among Us 2 during The Game Awards 2019. The title’s development was restarted following the acquisition, which is likely why we don’t yet have a release date for it.
