Publisher THQ Nordic and developer Kite Games today unveiled The Valiant, a squad-based real-time strategy game that sees players battling their way through 13th Century Europe and the Middle East.
The Valiant follows the story of Theoderich von Akenburg, a former member of the Knights Templar who renounces his vow never to take up arms when he discovers that Ulrich, a former brother in arms, is searching for the missing pieces of Aaron’s rod, an ancient and powerful relic.
The publisher describes The Valiant as “an action-RTS with RPG elements, designed to bring a fresh experience to players wanting something new in the genre.” Focusing on tactical combat and smaller engagements, its story-driven campaign stretches across 15 missions, each one with its own set of challenges.
You’ll have to carefully weigh the choices you make both on and off the battlefield. There’s no base-building in the Valiant, which makes picking the right troops for the job vital before heading into a mission. The equipment and skills you give Theoderich and his companions also matter, each hero having three skill trees which offer a mix of active and passive abilities.
You can also master The Valiant’s “fast-paced, melee-centric combat” in its two multiplayer modes. Last Man Standing tasks three players with holding the ground against waves of enemies, which include mini-bosses and bosses. The game’s PvP mode revolves around 1v1 and 2v2 scenarios “that consist of swift and thrilling clashes as players capture control points and build up their forces.
There’s no word on when The Valiant might launch just yet. When it does, you’ll find it on PC, via both Steam and the Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, and PS4.
