Total War Saga: Troy is only a few months away and, following its reveal as an Epic Games Store exclusive, developer Creative Assembly tackled the subject of modding support and what players can expect in terms of it at launch.
Modding support has been and continues to be a big part of Total War titles, spawning popular modifications like Rome II’s Divide et Impera or Warhammer II’s Steel Faith Overhaul. While Creative Assembly aims to “ensure Troy has parity with other modern Total War games”, that will not happen at launch.
Total War Saga: Troy Modding Support
“Troy, like any other modern Total War game utilises pack files within its data directory. As such it can be modded, just like other games in the franchise, such as Total War: WARHAMMER.”, the Total War Twitter account said.
“However upon release, it will not have support for mod/ tools hosting and distribution (workshop) and a mod manager in our official launcher: this is very similar with our current arrangement on Steam, where official mod support lands one month after launch.”, it continued.
The team behind it is “actively working with Epic in order to support this feature moving forwards” and, as a recent Dev blog revealed, Total War Saga: Troy full modding support is slated for a September launch.
This could also signal that Epic Games Store modding support won’t take long to get here. It’s currently listed as “up next” on the storefront’s roadmap and will be deployed “starting with one Store partner and ramping up from there.”
Total War Saga: Troy is set to launch on August 13, as an Epic Games Store exclusive, and will also be given away for free.
